Day 1—Istanbul

Welcome to Istanbul! Our representative will meet you at your port of entry and transfer you to your hotel. The rest of the day is yours for exploration.

Day 2—Istanbul

After breakfast, we embark on a fully-guided tour of the only city in the world that spans two continents. We will visit the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and the Hippodrome.

Day 3—Istanbul

We begin the day by exploring the Balat Jewish quarter and the Ahrida Synagogue. Afterward, we will see the area of Galata (now called Karaköy) and the Neve Shalom Synagogue. Finally, we will head over to Istanbul’s Asian side for a stop at the Bet Yaakov Synagogue in Kuzguncuk.

Day 4—Istanbul

After visiting the Spice Bazaar (Egyptian Market), we will catch a ferry for a Bosphorus tour. On this tour, we will have lunch (included) at a fish restaurant and visit a medieval fortress. Then we will drive to the Ortaköy neighborhood of Istanbul to visit the Etz Ahim Synagogue. Here you will have some free time to explore Ortaköy itself.

Day 5—Istanbul to Canakkale

Today we journey along the coast of the Sea of Marmara, crossing the Dardanelles to Canakkale.

Day 6—Canakkale, Troy, Pergamon, Izmir

Today we visit the legendary city of Troy. We also tour the Acropolis of Pergamon, whose impressive temples and library made it a renowned cultural and political center of its time. Bergama (Pergamon) was the site of a long-standing and important Jewish community up until the 20th century. In the afternoon, we head to Izmir.

Day 7—Izmir

We begin by first touring the city of Izmir and visiting the Beth Israel Synagogue. Afterward, we will drive to Sardis and see this impressive ancient city. Excavations in the last few decades have unearthed a beautiful synagogue dating from the 3rd century CE; its remains have recently been restored.

Day 8—Izmir, Selçuk

Today we drive to Selçuk for a guided tour of the ancient city of Ephesus and a visit to the Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

Day 9—Izmir

After breakfast, our tour concludes. You will be transferred to the Izmir airport for your onward flight.
