Day 2—Istanbul, Old City
After breakfast, we embark on a fully-guided tour of the only city in the world that spans two continents. We will visit the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and the Hippodrome.
Day 3—Gallipoli Battlefields
Today we travel to one of the most emotionally touching places in Turkey—Gallipoli—where we will tour the WWI battlefields. Sites include the Lone Pine and Chunuk Bair Memorials, ANZAC Cove, Johnston's Jolly Cemetery, the original trenches and tunnels, as well as the Nek.
Day 4—Troy, Acropolis of Pergamon
Today we step further back in time, visiting the ancient walls of Troy. Following is a tour of the magnificent Acropolis of Pergamon, whose impressive temples and library made it a renowned cultural and political center of its time.
Day 5—Ephesus, Kusadasi
Absorb yourself in more history with a guided tour of Ephesus and a visit to the Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Traversing the marble streets of Ephesus, notable sites we will see include the Baths of Scholastica, the Library of Celsus, the Temple of Hadrian, and the 25,000-seat amphitheatre. Afterwards, we will drive to the house of the Virgin Mary.
Day 6—Pamukkale, Hierapolis
This morning head to Pamukkale and its magnificent white calcium terraces known as travertines. Here we will also tour the ancient city of Hierapolis. Amongst the ancient columns, take a dip in the hot springs that were used by the Romans for their therapeutic properties. In the evening, there is the option to watch a Whirling Dervish ritual.
Day 7—Perga, Antalya
Today we drive to Antalya, visiting the ancient site of Perga before heading to our hotel.
Today you have the option to visit the rock tombs in Myra and the Church of St. Nicholas in Demre or to explore the famous Duden waterfalls.
Day 9—Aspendos, Konya
We have an early departure for Konya. En route we will see the Aspendos theatre, as well as the mausoleum and accompanying museum of Mevlana Celaleddin Rumi.
Day 10—Konya, Cappadocia
This morning we visit Sultan Han (Sultanhani Caravanserai), the largest caravanserai in Anatolia. Afterward, we trek through the beautiful Ihlara Valley. Tonight you have the option to partake in a Turkish folk evening, featuring folklore and belly dancers.
Day 11—Göreme, Uçhisar Castle
Marvel at the lunar landscape with a fully guided tour of the Göreme Valley, the fairy chimneys, Uçhisar Castle, and the Kaymakli Underground City.
Today we depart early for the nation's capital, Ankara. Here we survey the Anatolian Civilizations Museum and the Anıtkabir, the mausoleum of the famed Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.
In the morning, we make our way back to Istanbul. In the afternoon you will enjoy some free time.
After breakfast, our tour concludes, and we say goodbye to our new friends. You will be transferred to the airport for your onward flight.
